Our Project

The purpose of our project is to design and install a rain catchment and drip irrigation system into a local community garden. To do this our team, under the advisment of Mira Olson, will be collaborating with Drexel University's Engineers without Borders domestic design team and Project Home.

The community garden itself is called Sanctuary Farm and is being run by Project Home. The purpose of the garden is "to cultivate a space of hospitality, nourishment and growth for those struggling with homelessness and housing stability." The garden will be built on a plot of land located at the Northeast corner of 24th & West Berks St.

This project has many components such as the calculation of a water budget based off daily precipitation data, the construction of the irrigation system, and the approval for the installation at the site by the Community Engineering Corps. The proposed project timeline is pictured above. Unfortunately, the installation of the entire system is projected to be in the Fall of 2017 which is after Spring Term.
